The Circle City has been rolling around some ideas, including working to bring a professional sports team to the city. Now, that goal is closer to becoming a reality with news that a minor league soccer team in Dothan is coming next year!
About the new soccer team
More specifically, the first minor league soccer team in Dothan will hit the field in the spring of 2024. The future soccer team will play at Rip Hewes Stadium, which recently went through a major renovation. In fact, those upgrades to the stadium, like new turf and lighting, helped bring the new minor league soccer team to The Wiregrass.
Regional and local tryouts for the soccer team will be scheduled sometime in March 2024, with the hopes that the team roster will include both pros and amateurs looking to go pro. The official soccer season is expected to kick off in April or May and continue through July.

The community can expect to get involved, for one thing! According to reports, a contest will be held in the near future to help decide on a name for the franchise.
Then, once the season starts, fans can expect a whole stadium experience featuring kid zones, beer tents, corporate tents, battles of the bands and post-game fireworks, for example.
