With news that Dothan is in the top 15 destinations in the U.S. for 2021, we’re feeling like the secret is out!
Thanks to the 45th Annual National Movers Study by United Van Lines, others will finally know what Dothan residents have always known. It’s a good place to live!
To clarify, Dothan was the highest ranked metro area in Alabama for newcomers and 11th nationally. Overall, the state of Alabama was ranked sixth on the list.
But when it comes to the Circle City, there were couple of the things that brought people to the area specifically.
First, the fast-growing medical community was a big draw. That includes a strong network of assisted living facilities, specialty care services and nursing homes.
Secondly, Dothan boasts a good quality of life. We are located close to beaches, lakes, recreational attractions, major cities and more.
Plus, the cost of living is affordable, and the local economy continues to grow. In fact, the study revealed that Dothan added more than 2,000 jobs last year.

According to a recent report, the data indicated 70 percent of Dothan moves were people coming rather than going.
Typically, the study shows the top reasons for moving to Alabama are also popular reasons for moving away. What are those reasons? Jobs first and family second.
However, for Dothan, there was one reason for coming that wasn’t on the reason for going list. Retirement. The data indicated 16 percent of people moving to Dothan do so to retire.
