two new fire stations in Dothan

Hot off the press! There will soon be two new fire stations in Dothan to better serve the city’s citizens and visitors alike.

About the new fire stations

According to reports, the two new fire stations in Dothan will help ease the workload across the board and improve response times. The report shared that, on average, fire stations in town receive about 60 calls per day.

In addition, fire crews aim for a four- to six-minute response time. Thus, locations for the two new fire stations in Dothan focused on making that target response time more doable for the outskirts of the city.

One brand new station will become Fire Station 10. It will be built on West Main Street, near Girard Avenue. The second new fire station will be constructed on Whatley Drive, close to Flowers Hospital. This fire station will become home to Fire Station 3, which is currently located on Westgate Parkway.

Both new fire stations will be state-of-the-art, featuring three bays, day-rooms, rooms for turnout gear, restroom and shower facilities and more. Construction is expected to wrap up by next summer.

More about the Dothan Fire Department

Established in 1903, the Dothan Fire Department continues to evolve to better serve the city and those who call it home. As of now, there are eight fire stations located throughout town.

Along with fighting fires, the department offers other critical services, including emergency medical services, hazardous materials responses, inspections, public education and more.

In fact, the Dothan Fire Department was awarded a Class 1 rating by the Insurance Services Office in April 2018.

According to the website, the ranking puts the Dothan Fire Department in an elite group—the top 1 percent of fire departments nationwide. What’s more, only one in 10 fire stations in Alabama has earned a Class 1 rating from the ISO.
