About the new partnership
The Wallace and Troy partnership for Wiregrass optometry students is tailor-made for students with a clear vision of their future. According to reports, the partnership will simplify the path from Wallace Community College Dothan to Troy University.
From there, students will continue toward the ultimate goal of applying to the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry.
The official agreement was signed with a special ceremony. The ceremony was held in the lobby of the Heersink Family Health Science Building on December 7th. The building is on the WCCD campus.
More about the Wallace and Troy partnership
More specifically, the Wallace and Troy partnership for Wiregrass optometry students is supported by the Heersink Wiregrass Pathway to Optometry Scholarship. Two scholarships were established by Dr. Marnix Heersink. Those are available to two full-time WCCD students majoring in any pre-professional health program.
However, preference will be given to pre-optometry majors. The selected students will then be eligible to receive scholarships to attend Troy on a pre-optometry track once they complete the program at Wallace. At that point, pre-optometry majors will be eligible to enroll in Troy’s Bachelor of Science in Biology/Biomedical Science Program.
The last step is the assistance Troy will provide to help said students fulfill the prerequisites needed to apply for the UAB School of Optometry.
